Tampa Bay Florida. Things To Do and See in Tampa Bay

Well, I’ve had bloggers block for about two months now. None of the Google Alerts I’ve seen have been much good for me. They seem to be about a lot of shark attacks and drownings, and that to me is just a downer. Not what I want to think about on the beach.

I think the thing that is hardest about writing about the beach is not being there. I’m here up north, stuck in the freezing cold weather, and thinking about the warm beach just makes me irritable.

My parents went to Tampa Bay, and all I got was this lousy post. They went to Tampa Bay, Florida last July to visit my aunt and uncle. I asked her to write something up for the blog.

A gorgeous double sunset as the sun nestles in for the night over beautiful old Tampa Bay. Our room at the Radisson Bay Harbor Hotel is a mere 15 feet from the wall that contains the bay waters.

Water birds are searching for evening meal in the low tide shallows. Dolphins cavort beyond the pier.

We are in Tampa in mid-July, the ‘slow’ season around here. If you can stand the afternoon steaming heat and almost daily passing thunderstorm, it is quite a nice place to relax and unwind.

Seafood restaurants, along with the expected chain restaurants, abound. Crabby Bill’s Seafood Restaurant (We Don’t Just Serve Crabs, We Serve Everyone) is in the hotel. However The Castaway is within walking distance and Bahama Breeze is a shuttle ride away.

Take a taxi downtown to pick up the trolley or the street car. The street car makes 22 stops including historic Ybor City. Go there for Cuban food.

From our patio on the bay side, we can see the Courtney Campbell Causeway which runs in front of the hotel and then across the bay. Drive over the causeway and across the peninsula to Clearwater Beach and the Gulf. Take a dip in 91 degree waves. It doesn’t get any better than this.

We fished near the causeway and caught 6 different kinds of fish, which we then released back into the bay.

Huh. This makes me hate winter even more.
