The Beach at Presque Isle State Park in Erie, Pennsylvania
I was able to make it to the beach at Presque Isle State Park this last weekend. Granted, it was Lake Erie, but hey, it was still a beach. It was a very nice place too. I was really impressed with how it looked. I have been to the lake many times. I used to go to Lakeside every year up by Sandusky, Ohio, and that had kind of a crappy little beach. Port Clinton had some nice ones, but Presque Isle in Erie, PA was much nicer.
The only problem with going to the beach, is that it made me miss the beach in Newport, RI. I might have to make a trip out there later this summer. The beach was very nice. Good sand, not dirty. There was some seaweed (lakeweed?) in the water, but hey, that’s normal in many oceans. There were breakwaters (rock walls) I guess to block the waves and make the swimming area more calm, or block the boats and jet skis from coming to close. I like waves. I love to ride the waves, but it’s not like Lake Erie has many waves anyway. The only thing is that you weren’t allowed to swim when there was no lifeguard on duty. I like to swim whenever I want, not on someone else’s schedule. Overall I would recommend Presque Isle beaches to anyone looking for a short trip for the weekend. Beautiful scenery on the drive out there, or bike paths if you prefer. It’s on a peninsula, so you can’t get lost.
