Exodus by Bob Marley. Album of the Century. The Music of Bob Marley
Exodus is celebrating it’s 30th year anniversary this summer. The Album of the Century by Time Magazine is going to be re-released this year, and is even available on Bob Marley’s website. I was just reading an article from about 2 years ago, and I got a big kick out of what Peter Tosh (a Wailers band member) said, “The devil created disco, telling black people to ‘get down get down’ all the time. But I man seh to black people ‘Get up stand up for your rights.’” The devil made disco. I love it. Of course I hate disco. I’m listening to Bob Marley’s Exodus right now, and I have to say it is really good. I actually have some Bob Marley on vinyl. For those of you who don’t know what vinyl is, before there were CD’s, before there were tapes, there were vinyl records. They looked like a big black CD. You used a needle to get sound out of it. Sounds primitive I know. But hey, they still kick the crap out of a CD for sound quality. Of course there are always people who say that records have bad pops, and scratchiness, but that’s because they weren’t taken care of.
Back to Bob Marley. If you are not familiar with him or reggae, Exodus is a good album, but a better album would be Catch a Fire. It was produced to be more of a sound that could cross over into American markets. At the time, white people just did not listen to Bob Marley or reggae. Boy, were we missing out.
