Dirtiest and Worst Hotels in America for 2008

Tripadvisor just came out with their list of the worst and dirtiest hotels of 2008. How they came out with the dirtiest hotel for a year that has barely started, I don’t know, but they did.

Dirtiest Hotels – U.S.

Dirtiest Hotels – U.K.

My wife and I stayed in a hotel once around Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania that was disgusting. It was years ago, long before this whole idea of hotel reviews online came about. We were trying to find a place to stay, but there was a NASCAR race at the Pocono Downs, and every hotel we stopped at was booked solid. We stopped at one that only had the honeymoon sweet available, at a much higher cost, we should have taken it.

The place we finally stopped and got a room, must have been under construction, but they opened the rooms anyway for the race. Plaster from walls, broken ceiling tiles, lights out, spider webs across the room, big nasty stains, pillow cases with stains, sheets that didn’t fit at all. Nasty, disgusting bathroom. My wife and I are a little Monkish about things like that, so this was hard.

Do you have a story about a nasty place you stayed at? Let me know in the comments.

If this list gets you down, here is TripAdvisors list of the best hotels and motels for 2008. I am just linking to it, because it is long. They have broken it down to the best by family, romantic, luxury and more from all over the world. This is a PDF, so I hope you have a PDF reader.

Update: Check out the worst and dirtiest hotels for 2009.

You must add Knights Inn 7338, 5044 New Jessup Hwy., Brunswick, GA 31520 to the worst hotel list. I-95 travelers must be warned not to stop at this filthy, bug infested place.

America’s Best Value Inn in Youngstown Ohio. No extra charge for the soggy carpet and “continental breakfast” – the dirtiest glass jar of fruit loops I have ever seen – or for the foul sour cigarette smoke permeating our “no smoking” room.

    Yuck!
