The National Anthem of Jamaica

Here’s something a little different. I thought that since I talk about Jamaica so much, I’d put up the lyrics and music to their national anthem.
Eternal Father, Bless our Land,
Guide [...]

Cheap Airfare To the Caribbean and Jamaica

The first low-cost Caribbean airline is being formed in Jamaica. Airone Ventures Ltd has applied to Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority to create the airline. They plan to serve the Caribbean, US and Latin America.
They plan to launch the first flights starting in mid 2008, but there is now word that I’ve seen on how cheap [...]

Bob Marley in the Church Hymnal

I am a little behind on my news, about a week or two ago it was announced that Bob Marley’s One Love and Peter Tosh’s version of Psalm 27 will be included in the new hymnal for the Jamaican Anglican Church.
THE Anglican church in Jamaica will include the lyrics of songs rendered by two [...]

Jamaica From a Jamaican (Naturalized)

I recently had a comment on my post about Jamaica and mangoes. Lady Roots is from America, but moved to, and is a naturalized citizen of Jamaica. She makes and sells her own jewelry, and loves her adopted country. So I asked her what she thought people should know about Jamaica. I wanted to know [...]

Reggae Festival Concert in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

A giant two day concert is coming to Montego Bay, Jamaica in July. From the 19th to the 20th, the 15th Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest will celebrate Jamaica and reggae music. Sounds like a lot of fun, although I’m not sure I really care to see all of the groups playing. But hey, who cares [...]

Exodus by Bob Marley. Album of the Century. The Music of Bob Marley

Exodus is celebrating it’s 30th year anniversary this summer. The Album of the Century by Time Magazine is going to be re-released this year, and is even available on Bob Marley’s website. I was just reading an article from about 2 years ago, and I got a big kick out of what Peter Tosh (a [...]

Cruise Ships in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. 390,000 Visitors in 6 Months.

Holy Crap! Almost 400,000 people have come to Ocho Rios, Jamaica on a cruise ship in the last 6 months. That to me is a good reason NOT to go to Ocho Rios for vacation. Who wants to be around all those tourists? I want to get away from all that. Reading about this new [...]

Jamaica, Reggae and the Rastafarian. The Music of Bob Marley

I’m sitting here listening to some Bob Marley and I started to think about what Reggae is about. It basically originated as religious music, or the main musical vehicle of Rastafarian beliefs. What is so funny to me is that the Rastas believe that the Caribbean is Hell. They identify with the ancient Israelites in [...]

Caribbean and Jamaica Vacations Cheaper than Europe.

Could it be true? When I was a kid, going to the Caribbean was pretty much only for rich people. Now I’m going myself (for the third time). Because of European currencies against the US Dollar, prices there are going up. According to Ocala.com, staying in the Caribbean can even be cheaper than staying home. [...]

Port Antonio, Jamaica is offering “Discover Jamaica Naturally” packages to show the importance of preserving Jamaican land. I found this on the Press Release Newswire, and was surprised because it mentions negriljamaicavillas.com, which is where I’m staying next year in Negril, Jamaica. That url takes you to the Beach House Villas Negril, Jamaica. My wife [...]
