5 Unspoiled and Affordable Beach Vacations

USA Today had a great story about five unspoiled beaches that aren’t as well-known or developed with condos and hotels like some of the more famous beaches. These beaches are also cheaper than most. Not to say that they are cheap, but you can afford to take the family on a beach vacation to most of these beaches.

This is the kind of beach that I’m all about. I love when there is nothing but beach. No hotels, no casinos, nothing to interfere with my beachtime.

Here are the top 5 natural and cheap beach vacations:

Anna Maria Island, Florida

There are no building on Anna Maria Island taller than 3 stories, and more than half of the island is a beach.

San Mateo County, California

Along with less crowds, this beach vacation destination has mountain hiking, wildlife and plenty of shopping (for those so inclined).

Points East Coastal Drive, Prince Edward Island

Although Prince Edward Island may be full of amusement parks and other tourist traps, Points East Coastal Drive is much more undeveloped. With farmlands and forests, it will make you feel like you’ve gone back in time.

East Hawaii

Of course, Hawaii is the ultimate beach vacation. No beach list is complete without a reference to Hawaii. East Hawaii is perfect for those looking for something a little different; black and green sand, waterfalls, lava flows, it has it all.

Gulf Shores, Alabama

Many people say that the Gulf Shore of Alabama is an extension on Florida’s panhandle. Although not big, the Gulf Shore is 32 miles of beachfront property. White sand and palm trees paired with southern cooking.

Most of these aren’t surprising, but I’m pretty sure not many people think of Prince Edward Island or Canada as a great place for a beach vacation, but having been to Nova Scotia (a little bit south of PEI), I know that the area up there is beautiful, and very New Englandish. Sort of a cross between New England and Scotland (makes sense).

These beaches are also relatively inexpensive. Because they are less popular, they tend to be cheaper. Here are some more cheap and affordable beaches.
